Planning Your NFT Contract as a Creator
For artists and creators planning an NFT contract: royalties, metadata, ownership versus copyright, and checklists before you deploy.
You made the work. Now you need a contract that treats it, and your collectors, well. Non-Fungible Contracts is a planning guide for creators. We cover the decisions to make before deployment, while changing your mind is still free.
Four decisions to make early
Rights
What buyers can do with your art, written down in plain words.
Royalties
A resale rate and a payee, with realistic expectations.
Metadata
Where files live and whether they can ever change.
Control
Which admin powers you keep and when you give them up.
Creators ask us
- Are NFT royalties guaranteed once I set them?
- If I sell an NFT of my work, who keeps the copyright?
- Where should I store my NFT metadata and images?
The checklist
The creator’s pre-deployment checklist walks through rights, supply, storage, payments, admin keys, testing and launch day. Print it. Tick it off. Then deploy.
Why plan at all
Once tokens are in collectors’ wallets, fixes get messy. A wrong payee address, a missing license or images on a server you forget to renew can follow a project for years. A few hours of planning prevents most of it.
This is general guidance for creators, not legal or financial advice. For contracts and licenses that matter, talk to a qualified professional.
